Mercer County man jailed on hidden-camera charges
GROVE CITY -- A man charged with using a hidden camera to record nude girls in his bathroom and a sex act with a boy faces a preliminary hearing on Wednesday. Jeffrey Craig Bowser, 44, of Pine Township, remained in the Mercer County Jail on charges including rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and sexual abuse of children involving a video camera. Bowser was charged after one girl who was allegedly recorded told a teacher's aide at her school, who tipped off authorities. Police said they found a hidden camera under some clothes and a connection to Bowser's computer. They also seized various DVDs and computer equipment when Bowser was arrested on Friday. Some DVDs were marked with the girls' names and showed them fully or partially nude; other DVDs showed girls performing sexual acts, police said.
Technician who allegedly focused camera on reporter's thighs to ...
PENANG: The Penang Municipal Council technician who allegedly focused his closed-circuit television camera on a reporter's thighs will know his fate on Feb 16. Council president Datuk Abu Bakar Hassan said the councils disciplinary committee would decide on the type of action based on the internal inquiry conducted by the secretariat. It is learnt that the disciplinary committee would meet on Feb 16. The report is ready, he told newsmen after chairing the full-council meeting here on Monday. It could not be tabled earlier as we had not decided on the composition of the committee following changes in the councillors line-up early last month. The committee has now been formed and it will hold its first meeting this month. On Nov 10 last year, newsmen covering the full council meeting discovered that the CCTV camera in the meeting room had been zooming in on the thighs of a reporter. The council subsequently held an internal inquiry into the incident. On an unrelated matter, Abu Bakar said the councils planning and building committee would decide this month on the revised plan submitted by the Tanjung Umno division on the box-like side entrance to its building at Bishop Street. I do not want to say anything more to pre-empt the decision to be made by the committee, he said. It was reported that the division had submitted a revised plan on Nov 24 after the council issued a notice to the owner to either demolish the illegal extension or get council approval.
'Camera Pill' is a snap
Last fall, all it took was a pill to identify Randolph Taylor's intestinal problem. His doctor sent him to Anne Arundel Gastroenterology for treatment with capsule endoscopy, which is a pill equipped with a tiny camera that scanned his small intestine for about eight hours. Doctors reviewed the images taken by the pill and located a polyp, which was the source of his problems. "(The pill) didn't bother me at all," said Mr. Taylor of Pasadena. "It was pretty simple. I really didn't notice." The pill is a growing resource for physicians, who previously had to rely on X-rays and other surgical procedures to detect medical problems in the intestines. The pill weighs less than 4 grams, roughly the size of a multivitamin, and captures about 57,000 images - or two frames per second.
